The Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Eyeshadow Palette Rocked Me Like a Hurricane

Oh, gawd! So I have another bad TV addiction, and they call it Dancing with the Stars. Why they call it that I’ll never know, since said “stars” include third string reality TV-ers like The Situation from MTV’s Jersey Shore and Audrina from The Hills, but I digress…

I was just channel surfing one night a few weeks ago when I randomly stopped to watch. I swear it was like when Britney had her breakdown and shaved her head. I desperately wanted to look away but couldn’t. The show had me by the eyeballs and would not let go!

Maybe it was the sparkly costumes or the pyrotechnic displays (seriously, on stage fire style="margin-bottom:-3px;" src="http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/small-fire-icon.gif" alt="" title="small fire" width="21" height="24" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-42639" /> is like the oldest trick in the “you gotta watch this!” book), but now I’m hooked. And who knew that Jennifer Grey would still be such a kick @ss dancer after all these years, or that 6’8″ Rick Fox would have to work on pointing his toes?

Last night’s episode had a rock n’ roll theme, which means flames, a weird appearance by Bret Michels and his blonder than blond weave, and an awkward pasodoble danced by former NFL champ Kurt Warner (El Hub is totally rooting for him!).

None of it really rocked and rolled to me, but the Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Eye Palette ($45), on the other hand — that’s another story. Now THAT to me is ROCK. N. FRICKIN’. ROLL!

Big Sexy Hair Spritz & Stay Handles Snooki Poofs with Ease

Need big hair in a hurry (heck, you never know)? Big Sexy Hair to the rescue!

Get long-lasting shine and touchable hold in a heartbeat (or so the company claims) with new Spritz & Stay ($15) non-aerosol hairspray. It’s formulated with “fast-dry technology” to (you guessed it) dry f a s t .

I needed help locking down the volume of my Snooki poof yesterday, and Big Sexy did the deed. I can’t tell if it dries any quicker than other styling products, but I like the hold. Simple Weight Loss Tips To Boost Your Calorie Burn

As you go about your workout program, it’s important that you’re constantly looking for more ways to boost the number of calories you burn and increase that intensity up higher. This is not only going to help improve the rate of fat loss you see but it’s also going to ensure that you get in the best shape of your life!

It only makes sense that while you’re putting so much effort into your daily gym workouts that you reap as many rewards from it as possible and the following weight loss workout tips will do just that.

Remember that you definitely do not need to implement more than a few of these at a time. Instead, try one out and see how it feels. Utilize that technique for a week or two in your workouts and then move on to another.

By alternating between the tips you’ll find you stay that much more interested in your workout program and because your body never knows what to expect, you see that much better results.
Here are the tips to get you started.

Couple Exercises Together

The first way to boost the intensity of your workout program is to start coupling exercises together. This is often referred to as a ’superset’ and will be where you perform the first exercise and then immediately move to the next without taking any rest break in between.

So for example, if you have both bicep curls and tricep extensions scheduled for your workout session, rather than performing all the sets of bicep curls and then moving on to the tricep extensions, perform a single set of bicep curls and immediately do the set of tricep extensions.

Then take a thirty second or so break and begin again. Once all the intended sets have been completed, then you can move on to the next exercise pairing.

Drop That Weight

The second tip to help make the most out of your workout and boost the intensity is to use what’s referred to a drop set. For this you’re going to start off at the normal weight you’d lift and perform your set.

Once that set is completed then you are to immediately reduce the weight by about five pounds and then do a second set at that new lighter weight. Once you’re done that, try and drop it a third time and perform one more set at that new lighter weight.

Only after all three are finished are you to rest again. Note that this technique is definitely going to be stressful on the body so only do one or two of these per workout session.

Add Intervals To Your Cardio

When it comes to your cardio workout training in your weight loss plan, one quick tip to use is to add in some intervals.
Instead of just staying at the same old pace as you go about your workout session, bump it up a notch for about 30 seconds or so. Then once you’re finished that interval, reduce back to an easier pace while the body rests again.

If you’re fairly new to exercise these don’t have to be especially planned in – just boost the intensity whenever you feel like you can.

Slowly you can work towards doing an entire interval training workout where you’re constantly alternating between very high intensity intervals and much lower intensity intervals.

Pair Upper and Lower Body Exercises

Similar to a superset, another technique that will really boost your metabolism up higher and make for a great weight loss tip is to pair an upper body exercise with a lower body exercise. Because of the fact the upper body can rest while the lower body is working this will dramatically cut down on the total amount of time you have to dedicate to the workout session while helping you burn more calories per minute.

If you’re someone who’s looking for a quick workout when you’re short on time, definitely use this style of training.

Focus On Time Rather Than Reps

Finally, the last quick workout weight loss tip to add in is to start using time as an indicator of when to stop your exercise. Most people are in the habit of performing their exercise for so many reps. Whether it’s eight reps, ten reps, or twelve reps, you do your target number and then stop.

Instead of doing it this way, just focus on seeing how many reps you can do in a one minute time period. Even if you have to stop halfway through, get right back at it as soon as you can.

Work on improving the total number of reps completed per minute instead and you’ll really be creating some intense workout sessions.

So there you have a few simple yet highly effective weight loss tips to start using in your workout sessions.

Review: Smashbox Eye Wish Palette 2010

What is it?

A full makeup palette with 12 eyeshadows, 4 cream liners, a small mascara, and small eye primer.  It also includes little makeup look cards for ideas on how to use the palette.

smashbox palette Review: Smashbox Eye Wish Palette 2010

Overall Opinion:

I do love the quality of Smashbox’s eyeshadows- they are very fairly pigmented, have creamy like texture, and come in such beautiful colors.  BUT, I wish this palette had more variety in colors as some of the colors are too similar (#5 and 9 and #1 and 4)  I also feel this palette is geared more for fair skin as the colors are fairly light- especially the highlight color (#3).

I also like the eye primer as it has a fair amount of color, so it doubles as primer and concealer!  The mascara is nice also and thickens the lashes pretty well.

But… I didn’t like the cream liners at all- they are beautiful colors, but should not have been included with the shadows. I tried wearing them underneath the eyeshadows for a pop of color, and they creased even after applying primer.  They aren’t pigmented enough to use as liners either.

Despite all that, I still give it a somewhat decent rating as the shadows are amazing quality and easy to blend. Plus the colors are very pretty!

L’Oreal Wants You to Millionize Your Lashes with Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

src="http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/karen-from-makeup-and-beauty-blog-wearing-loreal-million.jpg" alt="karen from makeup and beauty blog wearing loreal voluminous million lashes" title="karen from makeup and beauty blog wearing loreal voluminous million lashes" width="540" height="464" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-63328" />

L’Oreal wants you to “millionize your lashes,” and I guess they’re just assuming you’ll know what that means.

Go on, millionize them! I dare you. src='http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />

If you’re confused, so was I when I heard the slogan for L’Oreal’s new Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara ($9).

Would I grow a million new lashes if I used it? Because if so that sounds like potentially too many… Or would my lashes grow in volume by a million times?

And why stop at a million anyway? Why not billionize your lashes? Let’s face it… A million just doesn’t go as far as it used to.

Overlooking 1) the silly slogan that doesn’t tell me anything about the product and 2) the fact that I’m a total word weirdo who obsesses over turns of phrase, I really tried to keep an open mind when I took Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Black out for a test drive.

The first thing I noticed about it: great brush. You know how some mascara brushes just don’t know when to stop? They grab too much product. Well, this one gets it right. I don’t even feel like I have to swipe it against a paper towel to remove any excess before applying.

How is that possible, you might ask? The Clean-Sweep Wiper System, BAM! The brush passes through a “web-like structure” and comes out of the tube loaded with the right amount of product for a single layer.

Blue Skies Smiling at Me: A Face of the Day with the Bobbi Brown Crystal Eye Palette

You know you’re from California when you’re already complaining about the weather after the first rains of the season. You see, I’m a certified weather wimp, and I was over the moon this morning when I looked out the windows and saw blue skies.

Tabs was even happier than I was because it meant he’d be able to go outside again after being cooped up all weekend long, and the first thing we did was go for a nice, long walk.

While he mouth mowed his favorite patch of grass, I gazed up at the sky and thought, “blue…” I know! — I’ll do a blue eye look with maybe a dash of purple to celebrate the day.

Celebrity Makeup Uh-Oh’s

Now granted most of these women have personal makeup artists to take care of their lovely faces, but on the MUA’s day off, these women are let to fend for themselves.

Paris forgot to blot!

paris hilton lipstick on teeth1 Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

This is always an embarrassing situation. If you’re going to be in a social setting, skip the gloss and keep it matte. Paris should be investing in NARS Jungle Red Lipstick (semi matte bright red).

Britney needs a mattefying primer stat!

0722 makeup mistakes 05 full Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

I’m almost speechless on this one.  Amongst many of the other makeup mistakes that are going on in this picture, Britney should really be looking into a smoothing primer to even out her skin tone.  My favorites are MAC’s Mattyfing primer or Too Faced Primed and Poreless.

Bad Bronzer Placement for CZJ!

CZJ Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

If you’re going to use bronzer, the placement is important. In Catherine Zeta Jones’s case, she should have kept it to the apples of her cheeks and the sides of the temples to highlight her amazing cheekbones. My favorite bronzer is NARS Laguna Bronzer.

Rihanna is overkill on the undereye concealer!

makeup mistakes rihanna tonybarsonwi450 Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

Rihanna honey, find a concealer to match your skin! If your eyes look dark and tired from a full day’s work, use an eye brightener over your normal foundation or concealer to lighten and brighten the area.  A good option is to use something like  Benefits-Ooh La Lift, instead of using 4 shades lighter concealer.

Tammy Fay let her mascara give her tarantula lashes!

tammy faye bakker closeup 2005 750 750 Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

Whoa. First off, toss your mascara after 3 months. Seriously.  Second, be careful of over-application, as your eyelashes can appear thick and scary.  Maybe Tammy Fey should try M.A.C’s Haute and Naughty mascara. It gives you the option of soft or sexy without the overkill factor.

J.LO washes out her usual glowing skin

Jlo Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

Why on earth would you ever want to mute out such gorgeous skin?!  Women pay good money to get coloring like hers! I would suggest  Jennifer Lopez go and find a foundation that matches her skin tone and illuminates the gorgeous skin she was born with.  Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation should do the trick, and give her that beautiful tan glow.

Kim breaks the matchy-matchy rule!

kim kardashian Celebrity Makeup Uh Oh’s

Not only does the blue underneath her eyes match her dress perfectly, but it also makes her look ill.  If you want to match the color of your eyes to your dress, okay fine, but the thickness of the line is dreadful.  She should have kept it smooth and minimal. Maybe next time she can use Urban Decay’s 24/7 pencil in Binge (midnight blue) on just the waterline, and keep it simple.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Oct. 25

  1. Mood:
  2. Rock steady, baby. That’s what I feel now. Not too high, not too low, just somewhere right around the middle.

  3. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break?
  4. Being too lax about exercise. I gotta get back into doing it almost every day because when I do I’m less moody.

  5. Red wine or white?
  6. Red, the smoother the better. No bold tannins for this girl, thanks.

  7. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen?
  8. Aww, man, I read tons of cheesy thrillers and totally devoured anything by V.C. Andrews (seriously, I read Flowers in the Attic eight times!) or Dean Koontz. I also went through a Harlequin phase, which I blame on Suzie, my clarinet playing friend from band. She carried romance books with her at all times and would lend them out like a library.

  9. Favorite way to exercise?
  10. Probably running because it doesn’t take much time, but if they were easier (or possible) to do at home maybe dancing, swimming or surfing.

  11. Do you wake up to an alarm clock?
  12. Yep! If left to my own devices and not electronic ones I’d sleep until at least 9 or 10.

  13. Have you ever baked a pie?
  14. Once in 2002, and I remember it like it was yesterday… It was a delicious blueberry and peach creation based on a recipe I’d gotten from my roommate, who was from the South. I remember being shocked at how many sticks of butter I used!

  15. Do you have a temper?
  16. It depends. If I’m exhausted, then yes.

  17. Favorite Halloween candy?
  18. Snickers (they really satisfy)! And throw in a handful of candy corn while you’re at it, please. Thank you.

  19. Weekly goals:
  20. To write an entry in my journal every day, to keep my desk organized, to step away from the computer at 6PM (sooo hard to do!) and to meet a friend for lunch.

Howzit, holmes? Fancy meeting you here. src='http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />

I hope your week got off to a good start. Please tell me things aren’t too cray-cray today.

Can you believe it’s the last week in October already? What’s going on here? I think we skipped August entirely. Do you remember having an August? Something’s afoot!
